2015 Trailblazer Recognition

Former Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll was recognized as trailblazer at the 50th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 for her significant accomplishments in the state legislature and as the black and first woman elected lieutenant governor in the state of Florida. Without the passage of both the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Right Act, a black person and a Caribbean descent of color would not have been able to break barriers to become the first elected black Republican female in the Florida House of Representatives, the first female and black elected as Lieutenant Governor and first black elected statewide. It's an honor to be recognized for the work I have done that benefits the black population in Florida said Carroll. During the seven and a half years Carroll served in the Florida legislature she passed meaningful legislation to: increase black business growth, increase higher education opportunities for black males, revise the student discipline and school safety zero tolerance to reduce the penal impact on black youths, and she sponsored legislation of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. license tag which provides funding to the March of Dimes to combat infant mortality, birth defects, sickle cell disease and homelessness. Many of these issues disproportionately impact the black communities in Florida.

2015 Torch Award

Jennifer was presented with the 2015 Torch Award in Politics by the National Newspaper Publishers Association. The Torch Award is given annually to figures of national prominence who are high achievers impacting the advancement of communities and country. This award recognizes individuals who willfully give of themselves to be servant leaders; it honors inspirational leaders doing extraordinary things under extenuating circumstances. The torch awards are given to individuals who have made significant contributions that positively impact the black community and for their acts of courage. Jennifer was honored for being the first African-American/Caribbean and first woman elected to the position of Lieutenant Governor in Florida and for her accomplishments while serving as Executive Director of Florida Department of Veteran Affairs. In her work as Lieutenant Governor, Jennifer fostered many initiatives in Florida that positively impacted black businesses, the health of at-risk low income infants, victims of domestic violence, economic development, space initiatives, the military and veterans. Jennifer also led trade missions to South Africa and Trinidad West Indies, leading to $70 million dollars in new trade for businesses in Florida.

To honor her for advancing the promotion of free trade and international business in the Americas, Jennifer was presented in 2013 with the International Women Award from the World Trade Center in Miami, 2013 Boys Scouts of America 12 Point Award for her service to youth and the community. In 2012 Jennifer was recognized by VWise for her efforts igniting Veteran Women in business, the 2009 Florida County Veterans Service Officers Association, Legislator of the Year Award, and the 2005 Rotary Club of Orange Park Citizen of the Year Award for being the epitome of the club's motto: "Service above self."

Jennifer has received numerous awards for her community service. She received the 2007 Pioneer award from the National Black Republican Association, 2006 Clay County Citizen of the Year award, 2005 Orange Park Rotary Club Citizen of the Year Award, and BAMPAC*s Vikki Buckley Political Leadership Award. In 2004 she was the recipient of the Legislator of the Year from the Northeast Florida Realtors Association, 2001 Center for New Black Leadership Excellence in Leadership Award, 1998 First Coast African American Women Award, 1996 Clay County Chamber of Commerce Military Person of the Year Award for making a difference in the community and the 1996 YMCA Black Achievers Award recipient.
