Recently an article on www.Military.com, “Generals say Troops Understand Need for Pay Cuts” stated, “Senior Pentagon officials told Congress on Tuesday that troops are willing to sacrifice portions of their pay and benefits if it means keeping and improving the training and equipment needed to do their jobs. Vice Adm. William F. Moran, Chief of Naval Personnel and Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, told lawmakers that sailors he has met with over the past six months have spoken more about the quality of the service" they're able to do than anything other topic.”

There was a time when the Joint Chiefs of Staff and senior DoD military leaders were the liaison between the troops and the bureaucrats to speak up for and defend our military members. Where has the spine of these senior officers gone? Who is speaking up to be that strong advocate for the men and women in uniform?

In all of my 20 years in the Navy I never heard of an enlisted military member say, “oh no, I don’t want that pay raise that will help me feed my family and pay my bills, just give me better training and equipment.” This should not even be a choice given to the men and women who are already sacrificing so much to protect our nation and our freedoms.

The contract agreement between the nation and our military personnel is that training and compensation for work will be provided. Civilians rarely understand the hardships that are placed on military members and their families; long and arduous separations, financial burdens, mental stress etc., yet the members of the military go out and perform their jobs admirably and without question.

It’s an atrocity for our uniformed leaders and the Congress to entertain this option of training and equipment- v-cuts to pay and benefits for our military men and women, those who sacrifice the most for our country.

A call to action is needed by every America who values their freedoms and liberties to stand up and tell Congress to stop wasting money on studies such as shrimp on a treadmill or catfish inspections, wasting millions of dollars for redundancy and inefficiencies and commit to doing the right thing by properly compensating our military men and women for the hard work they do on a daily basis 24/7, 365.
